Bridge Risk Disclosure

Last Updated:

This disclosure forms part of the Terms of Use, the agreement between you and Cygnet Technology Inc. ("Memora", "we", "us" or "our"). If the two differ, the Terms of Use govern. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

How the bridge works, and what we do and do not operate, is set out in the Security Model. Fees are on Fees and Limits, pauses and incidents on Status, and the steps of a transfer, including offers, expiry and refunds, in the User Guide. Who may use the bridge is in sections 2 and 5 of the Terms of Use.

Risks You Accept

Using the bridge involves risk. By using it you accept the following.

  • Irreversible transactions. Once you sign, a transfer cannot be canceled or reversed. Funds sent to a wrong address or chain, or to an address that cannot receive the asset, may be lost permanently.
  • Smart contract risk. The bridge's programs and contracts have been independently audited, but no audit eliminates the possibility of defects. A defect could delay, prevent or misdirect a transfer, or in the worst case result in loss.
  • Attestor risk. The bridge assumes that a majority of each attestor set is honest. If a majority colluded, unbacked tokens could be issued on Canton or funds released from a vault without a corresponding burn. The controls that limit this risk are described in the Security Model.
  • Upgrade risk. The vault code and the Canton contracts can be upgraded so that defects can be fixed. An upgrade can change how the bridge behaves. We announce upgrades in advance on Status and publish custody of each upgrade authority on Verified Deployments.
  • Network risk. An origin chain or Canton may be congested, halted, forked or otherwise unavailable, and any of them may change its fees or rules. A chain can reorganize its recent history, including after the bridge has treated a deposit as final.
  • Canton party risk. Your Canton party is hosted by your wallet provider or participant node. If it is unavailable, you may be unable to accept an offer or redeem until it is restored.
  • Pause and delay risk. Pauses, circuit breakers and outages can delay transfers, sometimes for extended periods. Transfers in flight complete when service resumes.
  • Bridged token risk. A bridged token represents an asset locked on another network. Its market value can differ from the value of that asset. It is not issued, endorsed or redeemable by the asset's original issuer or by the developers of its origin chain, and it is redeemable only through the bridge.
  • Counterparty and venue risk. Once a bridged token is in your Canton wallet, what you do with it, and any venue you use, is outside the bridge.
  • Market risk. Each bridged token is one to one with its asset, but the value of the asset itself changes, sometimes sharply.
  • Phishing and fraud. Fake websites, fake tokens and malicious signature requests can take your funds. We never contact you first to ask you to bridge and never ask for your recovery phrase. Check every identifier against Verified Deployments.
  • Cryptography risk. Advances in computing, such as quantum computing, could weaken the cryptography that blockchains and wallets rely on.
  • New technology. Digital asset networks and the software that connects them are new and change quickly. Software may contain errors, and features may change or be withdrawn.
  • No insurance. Digital assets are not bank deposits and are not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Securities Investor Protection Corporation or any other government program.
  • Regulatory risk. Laws applicable to digital assets and to cross-network transfers change, and may affect the availability of the bridge in your jurisdiction.
  • Tax. Bridging, holding or redeeming an asset may have tax consequences, which are your responsibility.

No Advice

Nothing on this site or in the app is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. We do not recommend that you bridge, hold or trade any asset, and we are not your broker, agent, advisor or fiduciary.

Changes

We may update this disclosure, the fees and the Terms of Use, and may add or remove supported chains and assets. We announce material changes on Status. Continued use after a change is acceptance of it.
