Bridge User Guide

How to move assets onto the Canton Network and back with the Memora bridge, what each stage means, and what to do when something does not go to plan.

The Memora bridge moves assets from other chains onto the Canton Network, and back. The chain an asset comes from is its origin chain. On Canton, each asset is issued as its own token, one for one: SOL from Solana arrives as SOLx. You bridge yourself, from your own wallets, in one interface. We never hold your funds and never sign on your behalf: your wallet on the origin chain signs the deposit, and your Canton wallet signs the redemption.

Examples use SOL on Solana. Each origin chain goes through the same stages, and the app names the chain and the asset.

Supported chains

Each origin chain has its own vault, its own identifiers on Verified Deployments, and its own rates and limits on Fees and Limits. We add a chain to this table when it opens for deposits.

A bridged token redeems only to its own origin chain. SOLx redeems to SOL on Solana.

Before you start

A wallet on the origin chain

Chain notes lists the wallets each chain supports. Install the wallet and unlock it before you begin.

A Canton wallet

The bridge connects to Canton wallets through PartyLayer, which implements the Canton wallet connection standard (CIP-0103), so it works with the wallets PartyLayer supports: Console Wallet, 5N Loop, Cantor8, Bron, Nightly, Cauri Wallet, OneSwap V2 Wallet, Send and Walley, and other Canton wallets over WalletConnect. PartyLayer keeps the current list on its site. If you do not have a Canton wallet yet, create one first. The bridge cannot create a Canton identity for you.

What a Canton party is

On Canton your identity is a party, written as a name followed by a fingerprint, for example alice::1220ab.... A party holds tokens on Canton, so a deposit goes to a party ID, not to an address. Your Canton wallet shows your party ID. The bridge fills it in when you connect.

Check the bridge is accepting transfers

The bridge checks its own health before you sign anything. If it cannot complete a transfer end to end, the app disables the button to start one and shows the reason in its place. See Status.

What you agree to

Using the bridge means agreeing to the Terms of Use, which include the Bridge Risk Disclosure. Read the risks before your first transfer.

Where the app lives

The app lives at one address: Coming soon. We never ask you to send tokens directly to a vault address, and never contact you first to ask you to bridge. Verified Deployments lists the addresses that make up the real bridge.

Deposit: onto Canton

  1. Connect your wallet on the origin chain and your Canton wallet. The app fills in the Canton recipient from your connected wallet. You can enter a different Canton party ID if you are sending to someone else.
  2. Enter the amount to bridge. The app shows the minimum accepted deposit under the field. You can type the amount in the asset or, when a live price is available, in US dollars.
  3. Review the transfer. The review screen lists the bridge fee, the network fee, your wallet's own gas, the estimated time, and what will arrive on Canton. Nothing has been sent yet.
  4. Approve in your wallet. Your wallet on the origin chain shows one transaction. Approving it is the only action that moves funds.
  5. Approve the transfer in your Canton wallet. Once the token is issued, it arrives as a transfer offer to your party, and it is not in your balance until you accept it. The app tells you when the offer is ready. See Activity and resuming.
Deposit: origin chain to CantonA deposit is not final when it confirms on the origin chain. It is issued only after a threshold of independent attestors agree on the amount, recipient and transaction, and it is not the holder's until they accept the transfer in their own wallet.
  1. Origin chainYou

    You sign one transaction

    • in your origin-chain wallet
    • names your Canton party
    • the only step that moves funds
  2. Origin chain

    Deposit

    • fees split off
    • net amount locked in the vault
    • below the minimum, it reverts
    Finalized
  3. Attestors

    Independent attestations

    • each attestor records the amount, recipient and transaction
    Threshold agrees
  4. Canton

    Threshold check

    • attestations must agree
    • each deposit recorded once
  5. Canton

    Token issued

    • exactly the net amount
    • sent to your party as a transfer offer
  6. CantonYou

    You approve the transfer

    • accept it in your Canton wallet
    • until then it is not in your balance
    • re-offered if it expires

Before you sign, the app checks that the bridge can complete the transfer end to end, and shows every fee and exactly what will arrive.

The app then tracks the transfer through four stages:

StageWhat the app showsWhat is happening
Approve in your wallet"Sending 10 SOL to the bridge"Your wallet signs and submits one transaction on the origin chain. That same transaction splits off the bridge fee and the network fee and locks the rest in the bridge's vault.
Confirming on Solana"Waiting for the network to finalize your transaction"The bridge waits until the origin chain has finalized the deposit, so it cannot be rolled back. Each chain's typical time is under Chain notes.
Verifying your deposit"Independent checks must agree before anything is issued"Independent attestors each observe the finalized deposit and record what they saw. Nothing is issued until a threshold of them agree on the amount, the recipient and the transaction. The counter shows how many have agreed so far.
Issuing SOLx"9.979 SOLx to alice::1220ab..."Once the threshold is met, the net amount is issued on Canton as a transfer offer to your party.

The step people miss: accept the offer in your Canton wallet. On Canton, tokens you have not accepted are not yet in your balance. When the fourth stage completes, the app retitles it, for example "SOLx offer created", and shows the deadline to accept. Open your Canton wallet, find the incoming transfer, and accept it. The app then shows "SOLx delivered" and the tokens appear in your balance.

The offer stays open for seven days. If it expires, the bridge re-offers it automatically, and the deposit stays in the vault in the meantime. The app puts it this way: "The bridge re-offers an expired transfer for up to 7 days. Your funds are not lost. If it stays unaccepted past that, contact support with the reference below to recover the deposit."

If the "Verifying" or "Issuing" stage takes longer than usual, the app says so: "This is taking longer than usual. Your funds are safe: they stay in the bridge until the transfer completes, and it will resume on its own." You do not need to do anything, and you must not start a second deposit.

Redeem: back to the origin chain

  1. Connect your Canton wallet. Your bridged token balances load from the ledger.
  2. Enter the amount to redeem. The app shows the minimum under the field. Each token's minimum is on Fees and Limits. The maximum is the lower of your balance and what the vault can release right now, which the app reads live before it lets you continue.
  3. Choose the destination on the origin chain. By default it is your connected wallet on that chain. You may enter a different address, for example an exchange deposit address. The app shows a prominent warning when the destination is not the connected wallet, and a Use connected wallet button that restores the safe default in one click. Check a pasted address carefully: once the vault has released funds to an address, the release cannot be reversed.
  4. Review and approve. Your Canton wallet shows one transfer for the amount you entered, to the bridge's receiver party. The bridge never signs with your authority. The app prepares the transfer, checks that what it prepared matches what you typed, and hands it to your wallet to sign.
Redemption: Canton to the origin chainThe burn happens before the payout, so there is no moment when both the token and the asset behind it exist. Each release is recorded on the origin chain when it is paid, so the same redemption cannot be paid twice.
  1. CantonYou

    You sign one transfer

    • in your Canton wallet, to the bridge
    • names your destination address
  2. Canton

    Token burned

    • before anything is released
    • redemption recorded once
    Burned
  3. Attestors

    Release signed

    • a threshold of attestors sign
    • the origin chain checks each signature
    Threshold signs
  4. Origin chain

    Vault pays out

    • net amount to your destination
    • each release paid once
  5. Origin chainYou

    Funds arrive

    • at your destination address
    • the receipt links the payout

Before you sign, the app reads what the vault can release right now, and will not let you redeem more.

The app tracks two stages:

StageWhat the app showsWhat is happening
Approve in your wallet"Handing back 5 SOLx"Your Canton wallet signs a transfer of the amount you entered. Anything left over stays in your wallet. Partial redemptions are normal.
Sending your SOL"Independent checks must agree before funds are released"The bridge burns the tokens it received and, once a threshold of attestors has signed the release, the vault on the origin chain sends the asset to your destination, net of the redeem fees.

The receipt shows the payout transaction on the origin chain, which you can open in any explorer for that chain.

Reading the review screen

Each figure has a one-sentence definition in the app. The same definitions apply here.

RowMeaning
Bridge feeOur revenue fee, a fixed percentage of the amount, taken on the origin chain. The row shows the rate, for example "Bridge fee (0.125%)".
Network fee (flat)Flat cost recovery for fees on Canton and on the origin chain, repriced from live costs.
Total feesBridge fee plus network fee, both split off on the origin chain before anything else moves.
Wallet gasYour wallet's own charge for signing: the app shows the figure for the origin chain, and your Canton wallet shows its own. We never receive it.
You receiveAmount sent, less total fees.
Est. timeTypical end-to-end latency, mostly the time the origin chain takes to finalize.
MaxSpendable balance, less what your wallet must keep to pay for the deposit transaction itself.
MinSmallest accepted deposit or redemption, set above the fixed per-transaction network cost.

On a deposit, the review screen also states the most the network fee can be. The network fee is repriced from live network costs. You sign a ceiling, and the vault charges the live value at the moment your transaction lands, never more than the ceiling. See Fees and Limits for worked examples.

Activity and resuming

The app keeps an activity log in your browser. Closing the tab does not affect a transfer's outcome: once your wallet has signed, the transfer completes on its own, and reopening the app resumes tracking from where it was.

Each receipt carries up to three references. Give support whichever one you have.

ReferenceWhat it isWhere it resolves
DepositThe transaction on the origin chain that locked your fundsAny explorer for that chain
Redemption referenceThe Canton contract ID of your redemption requestYour Canton wallet or a Canton explorer
PayoutThe transaction on the origin chain that released funds to your destinationAny explorer for that chain

The app names the chain in the first and last labels, for example "Solana deposit". These are the identifiers the ledgers themselves use. They are long, but anyone can check them independently.

Desktop notifications

You can turn on desktop notifications for the moments a transfer needs you, such as an offer to accept. The app delivers them while the tab is open, including in the background, and stops when you close it. There is no push subscription and nothing runs when the tab is closed. If notifications are on but none appear, your system may be hiding them. The app can send a test notification so you can check.

What each message means

The app does not show raw wallet or network errors. Each message below is the exact text you may see, and what it means for your funds.

MessageMeaningYour next step
"You cancelled the request in your wallet. Nothing was submitted and no funds were moved."You declined in the wallet.Try again whenever you like.
"Nothing was submitted and no funds were moved. You can safely try again."Something failed before your wallet submitted anything.Try again.
"Your wallet is no longer connected. Nothing was submitted and no funds were moved."The wallet session ended before submission.Reconnect and try again.
"The network fee changed since this page loaded, so the deposit was not sent. Nothing was submitted and no funds were moved. Reload to see the current fee."The live network fee rose above the ceiling this page quoted. The vault refused the deposit before anything was sent.Reload the page and review the new fee.
"Your transfer was submitted but we could not confirm what happened to it. Don't try again. Check Activity in a moment, where it can be resumed."Your wallet submitted the transaction, and the app did not see the outcome. In most cases the transfer went through.Do not start another transfer. Open Activity. The transfer resumes tracking there.
"The bridge re-offers an expired transfer for up to 7 days. Your funds are not lost."Your Canton wallet did not accept the offer before its deadline.Accept the new offer in your wallet. After seven days of re-offers, contact support with the reference.
"Refusing to sign: the prepared transaction does not match your request. Nothing was submitted."The app detected that the prepared redemption did not match what you typed, and stopped.Reload and try again. If it repeats, contact support.
"The burn offer expired or was declined before it was accepted. Nothing was burned. Your 5 SOLx is still in your wallet, and you can try again."You did not approve the redemption in your Canton wallet in time.Try again.
"Canton is unreachable right now." or "The bridge service is not currently processing transfers."The bridge has paused itself because it could not complete a transfer safely.Wait and check Status. Funds already in flight complete when service resumes.

If your Canton wallet session expires while the app is open, the app asks you to reconnect before any signing action.

Each message includes a "View technical details" disclosure with the original error text, which you can copy for support. The messages for connecting a wallet on the origin chain name the wallet. Chain notes lists them for each chain.

Chain notes

What differs from one origin chain to the next. Everything else on this page applies to every chain.

Solana

AssetSOL, issued on Canton as SOLx
WalletsPhantom, Solflare, or any wallet that supports the Solana Wallet Standard
FinalityThe bridge waits for Solana finality, typically about 13 seconds
DestinationA Solana address. A release to a Solana address cannot be reversed.
ExplorerAny Solana explorer resolves deposit and payout signatures
MaxLeaves the reserve a native SOL deposit needs for its own transaction

Native SOL is wrapped inside your own deposit transaction and unwrapped on release, so you never hold wrapped SOL yourself.

The connection messages name your wallet. With Phantom they read:

MessageMeaning
"Connection cancelled. Approve the request in Phantom to connect."You declined the connection prompt.
"Phantom isn't detected. Make sure the extension is installed and enabled, then reload."The extension is not installed or is disabled.
"No account available in Phantom. Open the extension, unlock it and create or import a wallet, then try again."The extension is locked or has no wallet set up.
"Phantom took too long to respond. Nothing was submitted and no funds were moved."The wallet did not answer in time.

Getting help

The support channel is Coming soon. Give support the reference from your receipt. Never share your wallet's secret recovery phrase with anyone, including us. Support will never ask for it.
